Usage and Applications
METALFIP 318 is to be used in immersion tanks, diluted in water at varying percentages depending on the operating temperature.
Submerge the parts in the prepared solution at temperatures between room temperature and 40 °C. During the cold season, the solution can be conveniently heated with rubber coils and steam passage, or Teflon-coated heating elements, so that pickling times are not excessively long.
Soaking time can vary from a few minutes to over 1 or 2 hours, depending on the type of iron, its thickness, type of oxide and temperature.
The pieces, in order to avoid alterations in the bath, the durability of which would be jeopardised, must be degreased beforehand.
In contrast to pickling baths for stainless steel, iron pickling baths are difficult to refill and it is recommended to replace the bath once it has run out.
In any case, iron pickling baths rarely last more than a few months.

Controlling solutions
Take 10 ml of bath
. Add 7/8 drops of METILARANCY indicator
Titrate with NaOH 1 N until solution turns from RED to YELLOW
The number of ml of NaOH 1 N consumed by titration multiplied by "10" gives the concentration in g/l of the bath.
For example, a bath prepared at 12% (120 g/l) has a score of approximately 12.
For each missing point and for every 1000 litres of liquor add 10 kg of METALFIP 318.
